At various times families face transitions which bring with them important and, sometimes, very difficult decisions. These transitions usually have to do with elder issues, divorce, post-divorce parenting and blending families but might also involve parent/teen discord, open adoptions, or other circumstances.
When making decisions, families often get "stuck" because of disagreement, difficulty in communicating with one another, or an inability to pull together a cohesive plan. They may also have ceased or diminished communication during litigation. Depending on the circumstances, one or both of the following options can help.
Facilitated Family Meetings offers the assistance of a facilitator who will manage the meeting process, give everyone an opportunity to be heard, provide resource information that may be of help, and assist in creating a plan.
Mediation provides an opportunity for communication and negotiation regarding areas of dispute, with the goal of reaching an agreement that is mutually acceptable and better than the alternatives available with no agreement. Mediation agreements are usually documented and signed, at which point they become binding.
